Apprentices ****All apprentice spots are
full for 2006****
Fat Duck Farm / Emma’s Garden is a 15 acre farm, located on
the Pecos river, 45 minutes east of Santa Fe. Our farm consists
of pasture, vegetable gardens, and river bosque. We operate a 50
member CSA, sell at a busy farmer’s market, and raise cattle
and chickens. We farm organically using both French-intensive and
traditional tractor methods. Apprentices will be involved in all
aspects of the farm, working side by side with the farmers. This
includes greenhouse growing, tillage, composting, planting, harvesting,
marketing, animal care, carpentry, and more. While we try to balance
work with rest we do work hard 6 days per week and apprentices must
be energetic and motivated. We strive to provide as much of an educational
experience as possible and weekly classroom study is offered covering
topics such as wholistic farm management, soils, animal husbandry,
and botany. Apprentices are offered simple housing, food, and a
stipend. We eat communal lunches and some dinners.
